🌱 Savannah Black History Festival + Mask Mandate Extends

Happy Wednesday, people of Savannah! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started off right.

Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:

  1. Savannah State University is set to host some Savannah Black History Festival events in honor of Black History Month this February. The Savannah Black History Festival is sponsored in conjunction with Savannah State University and will be held in a hybrid setting with some in-person and some virtual events. Events include a stage play and an art exhibition. (WJCL News)
  2. Mayor Van Johnson held a press conference yesterday announcing the extension of the city's mask mandate through February. "We're in the fourth quarter and we are aiming to get past this," Johnson said. "We are still dangerously high, we're hoping that we can keep this downward trend, keep the trajectory down and we'll see where we are in 28 days."(WSAV-TV)
  3. The Savannah Convention Center expansion is still on track to be finished by next year. The center has reported it's also staying on a set budget totaling $276 million. More than 200,000 hours of work have been done on the center so far. The convention center is still hosting in its event space during construction. (WTOC)
