Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Sammi Caramela, your host of the Savannah Daily.

Here are the top stories today in Savannah:

  1. The Savannah Police Department has arrested a suspect for a shooting in June 2021 that happened in the parking lot of a Savannah shopping center. According to police, 24-year-old Jamil Mahdi Jackson has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was taken into custody on Oct. 25 by the U.S. Marshals on the related warrant. (WTOC)
  2. Mayor Van Johnson floats mandates for Savannah employees refusing the COVID-19 vaccine. While coronavirus cases are trending downward in Chatham County, Johnson says he wants to see vaccination rates go up — especially among city employees. Mayor Johnson's updated goal is to get more than 70 or 80% of Savannahians vaccinated. City employees are offered eight hours of vacation time and $500 to incentivize them to get inoculated against COVID-19. (WSAV-TV)
  3. The Savannah law firm Harris Lowry Manton LLP will once again be saying thank you to the area's first responders Thursday, Oct. 28, which is National First Responder Appreciation Day. Their event in Daffin Park will be a drive-thru event again this year. (WTOC)
  4. A house explosion in a Savannah neighborhood has neighbors saying something wasn't right. Four people were home at the time of the explosion on Pin Point Road. Neighbors rushed outside to see a house in flames, but when they called 911, there was no answer. (WJCL News)
  5. A production filming in Savannah is looking for people ages 16 through 28 to portray background characters in a scene that takes place during a high school prom. The call is open to all genders and ethnicities. The work date is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 4 and pays $96 for 8 hours. (Savannah Morning News)
