🌱 Savannah Youth City Celebrates 1 Year + E. 39th St. Shooting

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Savannah.

(Patch Media)

Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Sammi Caramela, your host of the Savannah Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and very warm. High: 78 Low: 64.

Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:

  1. The Savannah Youth City Christmas party celebrated a year of community service on Dec. 21. Beverlee Trotter started Youth City because she "knew that giving kids opportunities to volunteer would broaden their life experiences." She wanted to teach future generations that there are different paths that lead to success in life. (Savannah Morning News)
  2. Savannah Police are investigating after three people were injured in a shooting on E. 39th Street. All three men had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital. Police believe a gray sedan with a damaged rear light fled from the scene, but no other details have been revealed. (WTOC)
  3. Stacey Abrams laid out plans to help Chatham County and Savannah if elected as governor of Georgia. She wants to address affordable housing, help the Port of Savannah and its employees, and address supply chain issues among other important matters. (WJCL News Savannah)

Today in Savannah:

  • Free BEE Movie and Crafts! - Savannah Cultural Arts Center (10:00 AM)

From my notebook:

  • The Savannah Theatre hosted The Piano Men on Dec. 28. It was an exhilarating tribute to the most famous singer/piano players of all time: Billy Joel, Elton John, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Jerry Lee Lewis, and more. (Facebook)
  • Step Up Savannah took the time to thank the Public Benefit Partners for all their hard work and dedication. Each organization is helping sustain the community one family at a time. (Facebook)
  • Live Oak Public Library staff members created a "Favorites of 2021: Children's Reading List." The list can be found at liveoakpl.org/books/kids/2021. (Instagram)
