Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- The city of Savannah is revising its demolition policy to better protect historic buildings. Following the removal of Bethel A.M.E Church on East Broad Street last December, the city revised its policy for similar buildings outside of a historic district. The changes require building observations to be shared with the Metropolitan Planning Commission and Historic Savannah Foundation. (WSAV-TV)
- The Savannah mayor addressed the recent gun violence after a violent week in the city. There have been five shootings in less than seven days, including one which claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl. "This is not random crime we're talking about. These are individuals that there's something going on. And what we have to do ultimately is break into what's going on," said Mayor Van Johnson. (WTOC)
- The City of Savannah's mask mandate has officially expired. Mayor Van Johnson announced Tuesday morning that it will not be renewed at this time. The mandate required guests to wear a mask in all city-owned buildings. (WTOC)
