Here are the top stories today in Savannah:
- The first-ever South Georgia State Fair opened on the Savannah Fairground property this weekend, much to the delight of local residents. The fair will run through Nov. 7 on weeknights and all day over the weekends. Fairgoers can enjoy rides, carnival games, classic fair treats, and more. - Savannah police arrested a suspect this weekend after shots were fired at Savannah's City Market, at the intersection of West Congress and Jefferson streets. Police recovered a gunand took the suspect to the Chatham County Detention Center without incident. (WJCL News)
- The Kingdom Life Christian Fellowship's fall festival combined Halloween family fun with COVID-19 vaccinations for Savannah residents on Sunday. Pastor Charles Roberson said the event was about "coming together to celebrate the new season and giving the community a convenient opportunity to get the COVID-19 vaccine and register to vote." - A vacant home on the 700 block of Paulsen Street was destroyed by a fire on Saturday morning. The cause is still under investigation by the Savannah Fire Department. (WJCL News)
- On Sunday, a shooting in the 100 block of Morekis Drive sent the victim, an adult male, to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. (WTOC)
