Up and at 'em, Savannah! Let's get you started this Wednesday with everything you need to know going on around town today.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy, a shower and t-storm. High: 71 Low: 45.

Here are the top stories in Savannah today:

  1. The Savannah Police Department is continuing to investigate the juvenile-involved shooting that happened on Dec. 4. Officers on the scene in the 1900 block of Duval Street that evening discovered a 14-year-old male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. An investigation revealed that a 12-year-old in the residence accidentally shot the other teen with a gun that had been reported stolen from an unsecured vehicle last month. SPD reminds the public to lock their doors and remove all firearms from vehicles and asks parents to talk to their children about firearms. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Mayor Van Johnson says he is "disappointed" in how the developers demolishing Clearview Apartments handled a recent string of evictions among the remaining low-income residents. Eviction notices that were issued earlier this month were meant to notify residents that they had to be off the premises by Dec. 31. When the mayor learned that the belongings of a woman and her child were put out on the street Monday, he asked the City Manager to investigate and report back to the council accordingly. Fortunately, the organization Black Voters Matter was at Clearview on Tuesday to provide moving and storage assistance to families who were being evicted. (WSAV-TV)
  3. The Savannah Music Festival is bringing a holiday concert to the Johnny Mercer Theater for two performances this Saturday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Hear holiday classics big band-style performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. (WJCL News)
  4. As gun violence surges in the Hostess City, Mayor Van Johnson and Savannah's police chief are urging local residents to practice gun safety. (WSAV-TV)
