Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- Stacey Abrams, the presumptive Democratic nominee for Georgia governor, will be making a campaign stop in Savannah today. Abrams will be at 323 E. 32nd Street at an event beginning at 4:15 p.m. The Republican's primary debate was on Thursday night in Savannah. (WJCL News Savannah)
- A Savannah assistant principal has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for her role in an Oxycodone scheme. Melodie Cheatham was assigned to Haven Elementary and resigned on Apr. 11 after working in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools district since 2015. She was facing 20 years in federal prison and the district did not know about the charges until Apr. 6, 2022. (WJCL News Savannah)
- Savannah's Small Business Recovery Program will be providing grants to small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants can be up to $10,000 and will be provided through federal grant funds by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
