Here are the top stories in Savannah today:
- Savannah Police are investigating a shooting that took place on Waters Avenue over the weekend. Officers responded to a shooting report at an apartment complex in the 6800 block of Waters Avenue and found an adult female victim with a non-life-threatening injury. According to police, preliminary information indicates a fight between individuals resulted in the shooting. (WTOC)
- Beloved Savannah pastor Matthew Southall Brown Sr. has passed away at 99 years old. Pastor Brown, a military veteran who was one of the first Black soldiers to fight in World War II, spent the last 35 years working with Savannah's St. John Baptist Church. He was described by Mayor Van Johnson as "a spiritual father, mentor, confidante, encourager, and trailblazer."(fox28media.com)
- The Humane Society for Greater Savannah is currently looking for Thanksgiving foster homes for about 60 animals in its shelter. Interested and approved foster families may pick up their Thanksgiving "guest" today at 7215 Sallie Mood Dr. between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Drop-off dates are flexible, but begin on Friday, Nov. 26. - Savannah's holiday season events are kicking off this weekend with the town Christmas Tree lighting at Bull and Broughton streets on Friday, the Menorah lighting in Ellis Square on Sunday, and more. (WJCL News)
- Beginning next week, visitors to downtown Savannah can park for free in city-owned garages from noon to 8 p.m. on select days during the holiday season. (WSAV-TV)
