- On Thursday evening, several community organizations gathered to discuss some proposed solutions for tackling crime in Savannah. Jay Jones, the former Chatham County Commissioner, helped organize "Conversations We Need to Have…In Between the Lines of Crime," a recurring event sponsored by Savannah's new Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, 100 Black Men of Savannah, and the A. Phillip Randolph Institute. "It's time ... to have a collective conversation so we can collectively understand what crime looks like, what we can do to fix the conditions of it, and what we can do to make sure we hold those accountable who can be partners to change the narrative," Jones said. Community members who wish to contribute to the discussions can attend meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Con-Ed Building on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. (WSAV-TV)
- The Savannah City Council workshop met on Thursday and discussed affordable housing in the community. Earline Davis, the executive director of the Housing Authority of Savannah spoke at the meeting and shared an update on the fate of the proposed demolition of the Yamacraw public housing complex. According to Davis, current Yamacraw residents will receive vouchers and moving expense assistance so they can "relocate anywhere in the U.S., not just Savannah." Davis also talked about a new city development off Wheaton Street, which includes an early childhood learning center, library, and adult education center. (WTOC)
