Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- The Savannah community will be observing Yom HaShoah on Thursday, Apr. 28 at the Jewish Educational Alliance. The event is meant to remember those who suffered, fought, and perished during the Holocaust. It is estimated that 6 million European Jews died between 1938 and 1945. (Savannah Tribune)
- The Chatham County Courthouse project manager expects the project to be finished by 2023. The County started the $84 million project in October 2020 in downtown Savannah. The project reportedly experienced minor delays due to underground utilities. (WTOC)
- The City of Savannah has begun gathering feedback on relaxing accessory dwelling unit restrictions. Accessory dwelling units are structures commonly referred to as carriage houses or mother-in-law suites. The city's zoning code wrote the structures out in the 1940s which made it extremely hard to build one. City leaders hope that by relaxing the restrictions, additional Savannah housing could become available in the future. (WTOC)
