Council Votes on RaceTrac Building Permit Tonight
Smyrna City Council will vote whether to approve RaceTrac's building permit tonight plus a look at what's coming up for Smyrna-Vinings in the week ahead.

Good morning, Smyrna-Vinings! It may be spring break for the kiddos, but it’s a regular workweek for your favorite hyper-local news website and the Smyrna City Council, too. Let’s take a look at tonight’s Smyrna City Council meeting agenda and the week ahead.
Council votes tonight whether to grant RaceTrac Petroleum Inc. a commercial building permit that would allow the company to begin construction of its convenience store at 2550 Spring Road.
This time last year the as some members of the community opposed its construction. In July 2011 . At that time, representatives from the company forecast that the store would be open for business by the end of 2011.

Nine months later construction is set to begin pending approval from the Smyrna City Council tonight. Smyrna-Vinings Patch observed that demolition has begun to one of the daycare centers at the proposed site.
Council will also hold two public hearings at the meeting tonight. One will decide whether to grant a privilege license for a title pawn and precious metal dealership in Ward 3. The other concerns the addition of a filming ordinance to the city’s code of ordinances.

Also this week, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners will hold a meeting Tuesday at 9 a.m. Smyrna-Vinings Patch will have coverage of the meeting.
Two local business organizations have lunch covered this week. Vinings Business Association holds its First Tuesday luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Social Vinings. This week’s guest speaker is Donna Lang from Smart Tools Coaching. Lunch is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Registration must be completed online at least 24 hours in advance.
Smyrna Business Association’s monthly luncheon is also this week. The group meets Thursday at the Smyrna Community Center at 11:45 a.m. Dr. Michael Smith, dean of the college of undergraduate studies at Life College, is the guest speaker. Member should RSVP online. Non-members pay $20 at the door.
