π± Avenue East Cobb Overhaul Approved + Median Home Price Hits $400K
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Smyrna-Vinings.
Hello again, everybody! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick dive into the most important things going on in town these days.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and very hot. High: 97 Low: 73.
Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:
- The Cobb Board of Commissioners approved the overhaul of The Avenue East Cobb Tuesday with only one slight change. The back portion of the retail center on Roswell Road will be redeveloped to include two "jewel box" buildings with restaurant and retail space, a live music and special event stage, a concierge building, a public plaza and optional valet parking. District 2 commissioner Jerica Richardson made a formal request to add language about traffic queuing in that area to accommodate what she called "multimodal" forms of transportation. (East Cobb News)
- Demand for homes pushed the median home price in metro Atlanta to an all-time high of $400,000, in spite of a rapid increase in mortgage rates. Buyers in a 28-county area centered around Atlanta bought 7.9 percent more homes in May than in April, said Re/Max. The surge happened despite the increase in borrowing costs and was partly accelerated by a shortage of listings. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- A 38-unit townhome development on Mableton Parkway was granted final approval from the Cobb Board of Commissioners Tuesday. After months of revisions, the commissioners agreed that the developer, Atlanta-based St. Bourke, had presented a workable plan for the project near Clay Harmony Leland Elementary School. Dan Mason of St. Bourke said the townhomes would be priced in the low to mid-$300,000s. (MDJOnline.com)
