BOLD Act for Alzheimer's S.2076 / H.R.1676
Alzheimer's is a National Health Crisis and meets the federal three point criteria for this designation.
First, the Burden is large.
Over 5 million Americans have been diagnosed and the annual cost exceed a quarter of a billion dollars. At current rates of growth, by 2050 there will be 16 million Alzheimer's patients and annual cost will exceed a trillion dollars.
Second, the Impact is major.
Alzheimer's caregivers have an additional health care costs of $11billion dollars annually. Among people with dementia 1 in 4 hospitalizations are preventable and Medicare spends 1 in 5 dollars providing care for people with Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Third, there are Interventions.
Early detection, diagnosis, data collection, access to quality care, and individuals plan of care can provide effective interventions. If implemented, these will prevent unnecessary hospitalizations, reduce Medicare and Medicaid and caregivers cost as well as improve quality of life for Alzheimer's patients.
The BOLD Act for Alzheimer's establishes an infrastructure nationally through Centers of Excellence, such as CDC’s to expand innovative intervention, improve the collection of data, and provide funding to local and State Health Departments to implement these interventions.
I encourage you to ask your Congressman and Senators to pass the BOLD Act for Alzheimer's S.2076/H.R.4256 this is critical legislation to address this national health crisis.
I thank Congressman David Scott for his Cosponsorship of the BOLD Act on behalf of Georgia District 13 constituent and the nation.
