How Are You Healing Today?

How we feel is a misleads many of us to believer we are healthy. Real health comes from how well the body is healing despite being bombarded with physical, chemical, and emotional stressors.

In our society we have been taught that how we feel is the single most significant indicator in determining our state of health. If we wake up in the morning feeling good, we head off to work and have a productive day. The question I am asking you to consider is are we well because we wake up in the morning and feel fine?

About two years ago, I received an unexpected phone call on what I thought was going to be a usual Tuesday morning. A member of my extended family passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack. He woke up in the morning, felt fine and went to work. While on a conference call at work he went into sudden cardiac arrest. But he felt fine that morning. Actually we had seen him the evening before at a family event. He looked fine; he was in great spirits, and the next day, gone.

Health is how you are healing, not how you are feeling. The truth of the matter is that this man, while feeling fine, and looking fine on the outside was very sick on the inside. The disease process takes years. He likely had heart disease for 10-15 years or more before the heart attack that took his life.

You are probably wondering why a chiropractor is blogging about heart disease. Chiropractors don’t treat heart disease. However, I do treat intervertebral subluxations. An Intervertebral subluxation occurs when there is a misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine. These misalignments occur due to physical, chemical, and emotional stress. Subluxations are dangerous because when spinal vertebrae are misaligned, nerve impulses from our brain down through our spine and out to every single body part are disrupted. When signals from the brain and spinal cord are disrupted we see dysfunction in the body. The dysfunction in the body could be anything from headaches to rashes to poor digestion and even further complex issues. Subluxation keeps our body from functioning at its optimal condition. And further, it keeps the body from healing like the amazing self-healing system that it is meant to be!

Why would a heart patient, or anyone for that matter need chiropractic care? My calling as a chiropractor is to help patients get healthy, stay healthy, and to facilitate the healing process in the body. A human being should always be healing because healing IS health. As we’ve seen, how we feel is not an indicator of health, rather how we heal is. We are constantly subjected to physical, chemical, and emotional stress and we must be constantly healing in order to combat all that the environment throws at us on a daily basis. Regular chiropractic care aims to remove subluxations to allow your body to function and heal at its optimum.  So again, I ask you, how are you healing today?
