Campbell cruises to home sweep of McEachern
Girls use pressure defense to win; boys stay unbeaten with Monday victories.

For the first time in three games, didn't need overtime Monday night, but the results were still very familiar.
Matt Cotton scored 19 points to lead three players in double figures as the third-ranked Spartans remained undefeated with a 69-62 win over visiting McEachern at Wills Gymnasium.
Campbell led for the majority of the game, leading by six at the break and by 10 points with less than five minutes to play. The Indians cut the deficit to five points with 1:45 remaining, but could get no closer as the Spartans closed out the victory to improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 4-AAAAA play.

"We didn't shoot free throws as well as we have of late, but I thought that when we needed a basket, we got one,'' said Campbell coach James Gwyn. "I thought we controlled the game.''
Roderick Perkins added 17 points for Campbell while Justin Seymour chipped in 15. Up next for the Spartans is a Saturday night affair against visiting Carver in the opening round of the Campbell Holiday Classic.

"We still need to build some depth,'' Gwyn said. "I think that Kyle Wilkins came off the bench last game against Hillgrove and really contributed and he hit a big three-pointer when we needed it tonight.''
The fifth-ranked Lady Spartans were also victorious Monday night as they forced 22 first half turnovers and turned back third-ranked McEachern, 63-54.
The win improved Campbell to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in region action as the Lady Spartans were able to successfully bounce back from their first loss of the year last Friday at Hillgrove.
"We did respond after the loss to come out and do what we had to do to get the win,'' said coach Randy McClure. "We played a little bit better, but it's just our fourth game. We can play better, but McEachern had a lot to do with that.''
Campbell's pressure defense gave the Lady Indians fits all night as McEachern turned the ball over seven times in the opening four minutes of play.
Angel Foster led the team with five steals and was one of four players in double figures scoring with 12 points. Baylee Hawkins and Chakecia Miller paced the scoring with 16 points apiece while Erica Norwood added 11 points to go along with a game-high seven assists.
Up next for the Lady Spartans is the Campbell Holiday Classic with Campbell facing Tri-Cities in the first round on Saturday night.
