Campbell Is No. 1,639, Says U.S. News

One metro Atlanta school is near the top of the 2013 list.

U.S. News & World ReportΒ released itsΒ list of top public high schoolsΒ this week, andΒ Campbell High School in Smyrna earned a national ranking.

Of the 2,290 nationally-ranked schools, Campbell came in at No. 1,639, which was enough for the magazine's silver medalist designation for top-performing schools.

One metro Atlanta school was near the top of the list.Β Β in Lawrenceville was the third best high school in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. That wasΒ the highest national ranking of any school in the state of Georgia.

The magazine examined how well students atΒ more than 21,000 schools performed on state assessments, comparing them with other schools in the same state based on demographic factors.Β Within Georgia, Allatoona is the 41st best high school, according toΒ U.S. News & World Report.

Eligible schools were then considered for national medalist designations based onΒ student success in Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs.Β The AP participation rate at Allatoona High is 27 percent,Β U.S. News & World ReportΒ found.

Nine Cobb high schools earned a national ranking. They included:

  • Lassiter High, No. 343
  • Wheeler High, No. 906
  • Sprayberry High, No. 1,343
  • Kennesaw Mountain High, No. 1,358
  • Hillgrove High, No. 1,491
  • Campbell High, No. 1,639
  • R.L. Osborne High, No. 1,835
  • McEachern High, No. 1,876
  • Allatoona High, No. 2,061

Marietta High, which is not part of the Cobb County School District, was ranked No. 1,463.
