Campbell Middle School Principal Eager to Work With Community
The new principal spent the last three years at Simpson Middle School in Northeast Cobb as an assistant principal.

The newly-hired principal of Smyrna’s Campbell Middle School is ready to collaborate with parents, guardians, and community leaders to maintain the high level of education students are receiving at the school.
Jonathan Tanner, who was most recently the assistant principal at Simpson Middle School, was tapped to replace Gail Johnson as Campbell’s principal by the Cobb County Board of Education in July. Tanner has an Ed.S. degree in educational leadership from Berry College and began his career in education at Lassiter High School.
In an open letter to the Campbell Middle School community, Tanner wrote that he had ”heard many great things about the dedicated staff and involved community” at the school and was looking forward to working with all of the school’s stakeholders to continue the school’s mission to “develop skillful, compassionate, and innovative globally-minded students.”

Tanner told The Marietta Daily Journal that he was eager to begin work with Campbell’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is entering its third year of existence. The new principal said that he was most excited about the school’s IB program and its methods of creating high-level thinkers who can think and compete globally.
Far from focusing purely on his goals for the school, Tanner wants feedback and input from the Campbell community on their goals and hopes for the student body. He said the only way the school can improve is through collaboration of all stakeholders.

“Above all, I want to create an environment where students, teachers, and parents are excited and proud when they walk through the doors of the school,” he wrote.
