Chicken Sausages Sold at Trader Joe's Recalled for Contamination Risk

Nearly 60,000 pounds of chicken sausage is being recalled, the USDA announced.

Trader Joe’s is recalling over 59,000 pounds of fully-cooked chicken sausage product after it was discovered some of it could be contaminated with plastic.

According to the USDA, Trader Joe’s branded “Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage” and “Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Chicken Sausage” is affected by this recall. Both products bear the establishment number “P7839” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage has a case code of 9605 and use by/freeze by dates of “4 22 15,” “4 25 15,” and “4 29 15.” The Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Chicken Sausage has a case code of 9709 and use by/freeze by dates of “JUN 13 2015” and “JUN 20 2015.”

According to the USDA, manufacturer Kayem Foods was notified by two consumers that they found pieces of plastic in their sausage products. No injuries have been reported to the USDA regarding the recalled products.
