Cleaning up the Smyrna-Vinings Notebook

A quick peek at what's going on in and around our local Patch.

In catching up with news around the Smyrna-Vinings area, held a last week and were able to gather about 120 pounds worth of food that was delivered to the ’ facility in Smyrna.

“Not as much as I hoped, but not too bad,’’ said Carol Kirshner, St. Benedict’s mission and outreach coordinator. 

Every little bit helps, that’s for sure. And Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteer drivers to help deliver meals in the Smyrna area.

Oh, and speaking of food, after being closed for vacation for the last two weeks, reopens Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. And check their Facebook page, as well, for a special “welcome back’’ contest.

At in Vinings, Monday is the last day to snap a photo of yourself at Marlow's in red, white and blue for their photo contest. Send to marlowstavernatlanta@gmail.com​ to enter for a $50 gift certificate.

Don’t forget about the Monday Night Jam at beginning at 8:30 p.m. Legendary stickman J.R. Hawkins of Swami Gone Bananas serves as guest host and drummer. Musicians are invited to sign up for 20-minute slots during the evening, with the host band members filling in if needed. No cover charge and, as always, excellent pizza and drinks are available at Bella’s.

And finally, during Monday night’s Smyrna Mayor and City Council meeting, there will be a proclamation in recognition of 25 Years for GLOCK, Inc. And the gun manufacturer based in Smyrna had a nice post on its Facebook page Monday:

“We want to continue to thank all of our active and retired military heroes for putting yourselves in harms way; to fight for our daily freedoms.
