Cobb Approves Design For New Braves Bridge

But not before a protestor was escorted from the commission meeting when he began shouting about "corporate welfare" for the team.

MARIETTA, GA -- The Cobb County Commission unanimously approved the final design for the new Atlanta Braves pedestrian bridge on Tuesday, but not before a local community activist had to be escorted from the meeting.

Rich Pellegrino began shouting down commissioners when he said they were providing “corporate welfare” to the team, reports the AJC. He was then removed from the meeting.

The bridge is estimated to cost about $10 million. The bridge will connect the Cobb Galleria with the new SunTrust Park.

Plans are for the bridge to be ready by Opening Day 2017. But the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum & Exhibit Hall Authority still must grant permission for the bridge to be accessed through the Cobb Galleria Centre and Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

A video showing the new Atlanta Braves bridge over I-285 was published just days after a $5 million pledge of support came from the Cumberland CID. The county is paying $4 million, while the Braves are contributing just $380,000.
