NBA's Dwight Howard Facing Child Abuse Allegations in Cobb County
New evidence comes days after Florida authorities dismiss abuse claims.

The Cobb County Police Department is looking again at allegations of child abuse directed at professional basketball player Dwight Howard, according to media reports.
Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb County Police told NBC News that authorities have reopened a case from this summer. At the time, police did not have enough evidence to pursue charges, according to the report.
But new information has been presented in the case, according to Pierce. “We will methodically process this case,” she told The Los Angeles Times.

Howard was just recently cleared in an investigation of abuse claims in Florida where he admitted to using a belt to discipline his 6-year-old son.
“We are confident the Georgia authorities will reach the same conclusion as the Florida authorities,” said Howard’s attorney, Oscar Markus, in a statement to the Times. “The truth is on our side.”

An 8-time All-Star basketball play, Howard, 28, is seeking full custody of one of his children, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Howard entered the NBA out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in 2004 and has played for the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, and Houston Rockets. He was part of the gold medal winning U.S. men’s basketball team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
