Cobb School Board Split On Resolution Against Racism
The Cobb school board couldn't come to a consensus Thursday on the wording in a resolution that denounces racism.
SMYRNA, GA — Cobb County School Board members struggled Thursday over selecting the exact wording of a resolution that denounces racism. It was proposed by board member Randy Scamihorn.
Scamihorn, who is white, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, said the resolution would bring the seven-member board together to reject racism.
In a four-hour session, members failed to come to a consensus on whether the phrase “systemic racism” should appear in the proposed resolution, reports the AJC. Board members also had concerns about Scamihorn’s resolution because it didn’t address police brutality toward Black people or ways the Cobb school district could address racism.
