Staff Report

On Tuesday, Congressman David Scott said that President Obama should do more to combat Ebola and ISIS while addressing about 40 people at the Smyrna Rotary Club. He called on America’s Arab allies to contribute more aggressively to the fight against ISIS. He called for a ban on flights originating in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia to help contain the Ebola virus and to prevent it from spreading to the United States. He also insisted that Dobbins Air Reserve Base needed to stay open to make sure that Lockheed’s jobs stayed in place at the Lockheed Martin plant in Marietta and praised its workers. The plant is currently busy assembling, among other things, the center wing section of the F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter.

“Lockheed might officially be in Marietta,” says Rotarian Narayan Sengupta, “but to us it’s practically in Smyrna. We’re very proud of the people who work there and the current and past C-130, C-5, F-22, P-3 and F-35 programs, so what happens to it is really important to us in Smyrna too. But we also share his concern about Ebola and ISIS. I suppose that it should be implicitly understood, but I have yet to hear anyone say that all passports will be fully inspected to see if their holders have recently been to the countries most affected by Ebola.”

Congressman Scott was excited about the new Braves Stadium and the positive economic impact it was sure to have on Cobb County along with the ripple effect it would have elsewhere in Georgia.
