π± Councilman Saves Man From Overdosing + Arson Suspected In Fire
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Smyrna-Vinings.
Morning, friends! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Smyrna-Vinings Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now...
First, today's weather:
Rather cloudy with a t-storm. High: 92 Low: 76.
Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:
- Twenty-one-year-old Zaran Karimi and 22-year-old Kyshaun Heard were arrested over the weekend for allegedly shooting fireworks from their car into the air and toward other vehicles while driving on Interstate 575 in Cobb County. "If the fireworks would have [gone] off inside the car, it could have caused a car wreck," said Marietta police officer Matt Cole, who saw the incident while off-duty. "With it being on the interstate and there's people around you, there's multiple lives at danger," he added. (WSB Atlanta)
- Arson investigators are looking into whether a fire that damaged several units of the Adams House apartments in southwest Atlanta was started deliberately. Officials said two of the 10 units were heavily damaged. Firefighters successfully put out the blaze after about three hours. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Councilman Dustin Hillis saved a man from overdosing during a ride-along of the northwest Atlanta area he represents on the Atlanta City Council. During the tour with interim APD Chief Darin Schierbaum, they responded to a medical call outside the Georgia Capitol Building. When they arrived, Hillis, a registered nurse, noticed the man was struggling to breathe and immediately began using his training and experience to keep the man's airways open while an officer gave him a dose of Narcan and they waited for paramedics. Are you a Smyrna-Vinings resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
