π± Court Watch Program Reactivation + Mattie's Call for Disabled Man
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Smyrna-Vinings.
Hello all! I'm here with your Tuesday edition of the Smyrna-Vinings Daily, filled with all the local news you need to know right now. Let's have at it.
First, today's weather:
A heavy t-storm in the p.m. High: 94 Low: 74.
Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:
- In an effort to reduce crime rates, Atlanta leaders are seeking to reactivate their court watch program. The mission of the program is to equip regular citizens with skills to spot repeat offenders coming into the court system and watch what happens with them. Participants would attend court and take notes on multiple aspects of the case, like jail time and sentencing. In reactivating the program, the city hopes to keep better track of repeat criminals and prevent crimes they may commit. (WSB Atlanta)
- A Mattie's Call has been issued for 56-year-old Carl Donnell Arnold after he went missing yesterday. The man was last seen on Ira St. in Atlanta and was wearing tan and blue shorts paired with a colorful shirt. Police noted that he suffers from dementia and is 5 foot 9 inches, with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is strongly encouraged to contact the Atlanta Police Homicide/Adult Missing Persons Unit and call the police. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently holding an investigation on the officer-involved shooting in Cobb County this weekend that resulted in someone being killed. After a resident at Heritage Lakes Court called the police with a report of an armed man firing at his family members, the SWAT team responded to the scene. Two officers then shot 41-year-old Cesar Anthony Pena, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no officers injured, and the GBI is currently investigating the case. (Smyrna-Vinings Patch)
