Downtown Connector Re-Opens After Flooding

A broken water main caused the shutdown.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says a broken water main caused the flooding and temporary closure of the Downtown Connector on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, GDOT says that the water main burst in the vicinity of exit 249B, causing all lanes of the busy city artery to be shut down. The flood waters receded just after 2 p.m., and traffic was operating as usual by 2:10 p.m.

It was originally thought that rainwater caused the flooding.
