Emory-Adventist Hospital To Close By November
The hospital cites the "dramatically changed health care environment" as the main cause of the closure.
Due to financial shortfalls and an inability to remain economically viable in the current health care environment, Smyrna’s Emory-Adventist Hospital will cease operations by Oct. 31, 2014, Adventist Health System and Emory Healthcare announced in a press release.
The decision to close the hospital was made on July 28, following months of searching for other alternatives, including partnering with other health systems to keep the hospital afloat. The Emory-Adventist Health System’s board came to the conclusion that, “the hospital is no longer sustainable in today’s dramatically changed health care environment.”
Emory-Adventist Hospital will now transition to the October closure date, though patients will not see any immediate changes, the release said. Dennis Kiley, Emory-Adventist Hospital’s CEO, said that more information about the closure proceedings and steps patients can take to schedule new appointments and get copies of their medical records will become available in coming weeks.

Kiley added that Emory-Adventist will hold several job fairs in the coming weeks to help its employees transition to new work in the medical field.
“We are grateful for the support of our community over these many years,” Kiley said. “It has truly been our privilege to care for the patients and families of the Smyrna area.”
