  • The not-for-profit hospital on South Cobb Drive has several free programs coming up in this summer. On July 13, Nutrition Counselor Dona Cangelosi, R. Ph., will share her tips on how to make difficult lifestyle changes and move toward a healthier lifestyle. “Getting And Staying Healthy…The 'Simple' Solution!’’ will help participants take charge of their long term health forever. Included in the program will be a performance by Terpsichore Dance Project, a professional senior citizen dance group.

The next day, July 14, a “Fall Prevention Education & Risk Assessment Screening’’ will take place. According to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the United States, one of every three people 65 years and older fall each year. Older adults are hospitalized for fall-related injuries five times more often than they are for injuries from other causes, and many who fall, suffer moderate to severe injuries that reduce mobility and independence, and increase the risk of premature death. Physical Therapists from PT Solutions will provide education regarding fall prevention including home set up, conditioning program, etc. They will also provide a free screening with shoe assessment, strength assessment, stability awareness and balance assessment, so you can find out if you are at risk and what you can do to prevent a fall.

And finally on Aug. 11, a free audiology screening will be held at the hospital. Hearing tests will include a pure tone audiometrics screening by licensed audiologist Dr. Kathy J. Colapinto CCC-A, FAAA. For more information on these events, call 770-319-2025 or log on to www.emoryadventist.org.
