Connect the Beltline to the Silver Comet Trail: Guided Walk

The Silver Comet trail has, for a long time, been three miles short of completion. The three mile section from the Mavell Road entry point to the PATH trail on the east side of the river at South Atlanta Road has not been finished, and if finished would connect a continuous path from the Beltline in Atlanta to Alabama.

The walk of the unfinished portion of the Silver Comet Trail will be taking place on Saturday April 13th beginning at 1 PM. We're going to assemble in the parking lot of the Publix at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and the East West Connector, in the part of the parking lot adjacent to the Burger King.

We'll walk from there, along the track, 3 miles to approximately the intersection of South Atlanta Road and Plant Atkinson Road. We'll have cars waiting to return people to the Publix parking lot.
Dress for walking through moderate overgrowth.

The tracks are passable at all points, but all variety of plant life has grown up adjacent and through the unused tracks, so be prepared for briars and burrs. There is also one moderately steep hill to walk down at the beginning of the walk.

Our estimate is that we'll spend 2-3 hours on the walk.

For some background, please review Cobb's Bike/Ped Plan on "connector" alternatives. It was updated in 2011 to reflect the Connect Atlanta plan at:
