Former Cobb Cop Makes Bank With Lottery Win

The retired officer, who now lives in Rockmart, is now over $100,000 richer thanks to the Georgia Lottery and Lady Luck.

A retired Cobb County police officer is overloaded with excitement, having won a prize worth over a hundred thousand dollars from the Georgia Lottery. Earl McTavish matched all five numbers from the Aug. 12 Fantasy 5 drawing and is one of three winners to claim a $127,470 jackpot prize.

“It’s pretty exciting,” said McTavish, 63. “I’ll put it in the bank.”

A resident of Rockmart, McTavish retired from the Cobb County Police Department in 2008.

Grant Country Store, 994 Cedartown Highway in Rockmart, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

Two additional jackpot-winning tickets were sold in Savannah and Moultrie.

Winning numbers from the Aug. 12 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 3-5-7-32-38.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
