Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:
- Seventy-two-year-old Thomas Ukoshovbera A. Gbenedio, a Cobb County pharmacist, was sentenced to prison after being convicted of running an illegal pill mill and then trying to flee the country. Gbenedio was the owner of Better Way Pharmacy in Mableton. According to prosecutors, Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency agents conducted an inspection at Gbenedio's pharmacy and found that several customers were traveling long distances to get prescriptions for highly addictive opioids, like oxycodone, from the same physician. - At its meeting last Tuesday the Cobb County Planning Commission recommended approval of a rezoning application to build a townhome community in Cobb County Commission District 4. The building will be subject to modifications that will be worked out between the applicant, St. Bourke, and the Cobb County DOT. The property is located on the north side of Mableton Parkway. (Cobb County Courier)
- The City of Powder Springs will hold a July 4th celebration at Thurman Spring Park starting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Jul. 4. Take a short drive over to the event, which will feature classic and modern cars, live bands, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, a kids' area and fireworks show that will be visible from all parts of the city.
