Georgia Gives Day

Do you have a passion for literacy, social justice, or animal welfare? Any cause you care about is represented by one of the many hard-working Georgia nonprofits on the "Georgia Gives Day" website.

As Director of Smyrna Public Library, my favorite group of do-gooders is the Friends of Smyrna Library (FOSL).  FOSL and hundreds of other Georgia nonprofits are accepting donations through the Georgia Gives Day campaign. Between now and November 13, you may visit the website and make donations of any size to the charity of your choice. The campaign has already raised over $900,000 for Georgia charities.

If you don't have a specific charity in mind, you may search by keyword to find like-minded groups or nonprofits in your area. To help encourage donations, the charity with the most number of donations (no matter the size of the contributions) gets an extra bonus of cash.

As a librarian, I have personally witnessed the transformative power of literacy and reading in an individual's life. On November 13, I know which groups I will punch the donate button for. Whatever your passion, show your Georgia pride on November 13 by supporting one or more of the many nonprofits vital to our community.
