UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed Near Smyrna Identified
Police do not expect to file charges against the driver in the incident.

UPDATE (6:00 p.m.): Cobb County police have identified the woman who was struck and killed by a car near Smyrna on Thursday.
Beryl M. Bell of Williamston, NC, was attempting to cross Powers Ferry Road at Windy Hill Road at approximately 5:30 a.m. Thursday when she turned and began walking in the southern crosswalk against the signal, police spokesman Dana Pierce said. While in the intersection, Bell was hit and killed by a maroon 2004 Mercedes E500 heading south on Powers Ferry Road.
Pierce said that the driver of the Mercedes, who called 9-1-1 after the collision, has been identified as 62 year old Javad Salmasi of Marietta. Police do not expect to file charges against Salmasi at this time, Pierce added.
