It's One Good Earthy Kind of Friday

And so the end of the work has arrived, but as you might well know, it’s not just any day of the week. It’s Good Friday and Earth Day today.

Good Friday is the time that Christians commemorate the suffering and death on the cross of Jesus Christ. In preparation for Easter Sunday, many will spend this day fasting and in prayer and meditation on the agony that Jesus suffered.

And sure today is Earth Day, but shouldn’t every day be Earth Day?

Earth Day is a day to bring awareness and appreciation for our nature. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson founded it as an environmental teach-in that was first held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is now coordinated internationally and celebrated in more than 175 countries annually.

The Lovett School has been celebrating with a variety of “green’’ happenings all week, including its second Walk to School Day event. See for recap of the first such event in December.

On Wednesday, more than 300 students, many from the Vinings area, walked, biked, roller bladed and even floated on the Chattahoochee River to school. A total of 436 students also carpooled to Lovett that day.
