Jackson Fine Art Presents Tierney Gearon's COLORSHAPE Series & New Children's Book

Jackson Fine Art in Buckhead isΒ thrilled to present acclaimed photographerΒ Tierney Gearon’s COLORSHAPEΒ series opening Friday, November 8, 2013 from 6-8pm, through February 22, 2014. Β AΒ contemporary artistΒ who had gained both noted critical and commercialΒ recognition in the US and abroad for her powerful and intense color photographs, Gearon’s new seriesΒ COLORSHAPEΒ revolvesΒ around subject of color and shape where upon the artist builds on site handmadeΒ vibrant colored Plexiglass structures in picturesque landscapes, snow-topedΒ mountains, urban streets and neighborhoods. Β KnownΒ for her use of incorporatingΒ her children and their friends into her work,Β COLORSHAPEΒ brilliantly captures her subjects, literally, suspendedΒ in a moment, in the multi-color plexi-shaped sculptures– while transportingΒ both the subject and viewer to another worldΒ from the familiar to the unknown strangeΒ land of encased children and animals in prisms of reflecting color.

To celebrate the arrival of the series, Jackson Fine Art is hosting anΒ opening night reception and artist meet and greet on Friday,Β November 8 from 6Β to 8 p.m. that is open to the public.Β Β Additionally, Gearon and the gallery invite children and their familiesΒ to joinΒ them for free carnival and book signing of her newly releasedΒ children’sΒ Alphabet BookΒ publishedΒ by Damiani. The carnival kicks ofΒ at 11 a.m. at Jackson Fine Art and includesΒ interactive art projects sponsored byΒ ColorwheelΒ of Decatur,Β Β an appearance byΒ Reptile Man-the snake handler, and cottonΒ candy and cupcakes galore. The event is the perfect opportunity to introduce galleriesΒ and exhibitions the next generation of budding collectors and artists.

Gearon, an Atlanta native nowΒ living in Los Angeles, was thrust into the spotlight in 2001Β when her work was featured as one of theΒ main photographers in the famedΒ I AmΒ A CameraΒ exhibition at Saatchi Gallery in London. She has beenΒ exhibited at manyΒ prominent galleries and museums including, The Parrish ArtΒ Museum, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Phillips de Pury &Β CompanyΒ in London. In 2006, she released her critically acclaimed seriesΒ The Mother ProjectΒ along with a film,Β which was aΒ featured selection at numerous film festivals, including TheΒ Tribeca Film Festival.Β In 2009, Gearon pushed her photography to a newΒ zenith, double exposing film inside of the camera to produce groundbreakingΒ chance narratives in her work titledΒ EXPLOSUREΒ withΒ an exhibition at Phillips de Pury in London.Β Her mostΒ recent project, a 24-page feature of 13 Hollywood heroines, was featured inΒ NYΒ Times Magazine.Β Her work continues to garner world acclaim by criticsΒ and collectors alike. An artistic autodidact, her techniqueΒ embraces theΒ accidental β€” capturing personal, haunting images. What results are portraitsΒ that are familiar yet uncanny, surrealΒ candid life studies documenting herΒ family and friends that provide a look into her own inner workings, desires andΒ fears; aΒ continuous diary of her soul.
