New Yogurt Shop Coming; Popeyes Ready to Reopen

Yotopia focused on a June opening while fried chicken restaurant regroups after fire.

While a new yogurt shop will soon be cooling things down on the southern end of South Cobb Drive, it got a little too hot recently for a fast food chicken restaurant a bit up the road.

Less than a month after a new frozen yogurt franchise indicated it would soon be opening in Vinings, Smyrna is about to get its own self-serve yogurt shop featuring a wide variety of flavors and toppings.

Yotopia will be occupying a space at the Shops at Comet Trail development by the beginning of June if all goes as planned. The Shops at Silver Comet is located at 4626 Camp Highland Road and is 0.1 mile west of the South Cobb Dr. and East/West Connector intersection. , Firehouse Subs and FedEx/Kinkos are some of the businesses currently in the retail specialty center.

According to a fire report, the responded to the call at the restaurant at 11:53 p.m. The fire started near the entrance on the north side of the building and firefighters contained the blaze before it spread to the entire restaurant.

An investigator on the scene reportedly could not determine the cause of the fire, but had not ruled out arson.

Paul McDonald, a Popeye’s employee, stated in the fire report that a woman entered the restaurant and complained about the service she received shortly before the fire began.

Popeye’s corporate firm, AFC Enterprises, owns the South Cobb location. Most of the damage was done in the dining room, while the kitchen received no damage. The drive-thru may open as early as Wednesday.

“Currently we’re just trying to get our business back up and running,” said Andre Harris, a representative from AFC Enterprises.
