November is National Caregivers Month

Supporting Caregivers with Improving Hope forAlzheimer's Act S,880 H.R.1873

November is National Caregiving Month recognizing the struggles and contribution of millions of Caregivers. Today 48 percent of all caregivers are caring for someone suffering from Alzheimer's and related dementias.
These caregivers report higher levels of stress, depression and lower health outcomes than caregivers of other chronic diseases. A plan of care at the time of diagnosis allows these patients and caregivers the ability to choose the best path for them. Improving Hope for Alzheimer's Act (S.880 H.R.1873) requires Centers for Medicare Services to educate Clinicians of the billable benefits of conducting the Care Planning meetings with patients and families. Informing them of non medical services in their local communities to support the caregivers. These support services can reduce hospitalizations for the patients and provide better medication management for those with multiple diagnoses such as diabetes and hypertension. As well as lower levels of stress and depression for their caregivers.
The Alzheimer's Association and its advocacy organization Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM) are working hard to build support for this legislation in Congress. Join our efforts by asking your members of Congress to support and pass the Improving Hope for Alzheimer's Act. I thank Congressman David Scott of Georgia's District 13 for Cosponsorship and his support of caregivers in my district.
