Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act H.R 647
Better Training Can Bring Comfort to Patients and their families

The Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA) H.R.647 will amend the Public Health Service Act to increase the number of permanent faculty in palliative care at accredited allopathic and osteopathic medical schools, nursing schools, social work schools, and other programs, including physician assistant education programs, to promote education and research in palliative care and hospice, and to support the development of faculty careers in academic palliative medicine.
The Alzheimer's Association supports this legislation as it provides much needed training for medical professionals in caring for all seniors especially those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias. These are specialized fields providing care for patients near end of life. Palliative Care is required when Physicians determine the patient is in the last 6 months of their life journey.
My family took this Alzheimer's journey with my mother a number of years ago. Her final days in Hospice care were difficult for our family. Those caring for her were loving and kind but lacked the training for that end of life setting.
I encourage you to ask your Congressman to Support this Legislation as I am asking Congressman David Scott to continue his support of PCHETA H.R.647.
