UPDATE: Cobb Craigslist Couple's Bodies Believed Found, SUV Located in Pond

Bud and June Runion purchased a car online and haven't been seen since Thursday, according to Cobb County police.

UPDATE (5:20 p.m.): The SUV driven by a Cobb County couple which has been missing since Thursday has been discovered in a Telfair County pond as well as a set of bodies which may be the missing man and woman.

According to WSB-TV, Telfair County sheriff’s deputies discovered the pewter/champagne color 2003 GMC Envoy with a Georgia tag of BWU7349 beneath a lake or pond inside the county on Monday.

Investigators also discovered a pair of bodies in the same body of water which have not been definitively identified but are likely to be Elrey “Bud” Runion and June Runion of Marietta. The Runions were traveling to Telfair County to retrieve a 1966 Ford Mustang that Bud bought on Craigslist.

Authorities in Telfair County have arrested a suspect in the disappearance and possible murder of the Runions; Ronnie “Jay” Towns was taken into custody on Monday morning after he turned himself in to police. Police interviewed Towns on Sunday regarding the disappearance of the Runions, then issued arrest warrants for Towns on charges of making false statements and theft by deception. Towns was allegedly the last person to speak with the Runions.

UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): The Telfair County Sheriff’s Office has announced that it has found a pair of bodies which it believes are the remains of a Cobb County couple which went missing in the area last week, WSB-TV reported Monday afternoon.

Elrey “Bud” Runion and June Runion were traveling from Marietta to Telfair County to retreive a 1966 Ford Mustang that Bud bought on Craigslist, their daughter told WSB-TV. The Runions were supposed to return Friday to babysit their grandchildren, but they never arrived.

UPDATE (12:45 p.m.): Authorities in Telfair County say they have arrested a suspect in the disappearance of a husband and wife from Cobb County, WSB-TV has learned.

Ronnie “Jay” Towns was taken into custody on Monday morning and is being booked into the Telfair County jail as of 1 p.m. Monday. Police interviewed Towns on Sunday regarding the disappearance of Elrey “Bud” Runion and June Runion of Marietta, then issued arrest warrants for Towns on charges of making false statements and theft by deception.

Towns was allegedly the last person to speak with the Runions, who were traveling to Telfair County to purchase a 1966 Ford Mustang that Bud had discovered online through Craigslist. Police have not said if Towns was the one offering the Mustang for sale.

The Runions were supposed to return Friday to babysit their grandchildren, but they never arrived. The Facebook page “Find Bud and June Runion” has more than 121,000 likes as of Monday afternoon. The page announced Towns’ arrest just before noon Monday.

Anyone with information about the couple’s whereabouts is asked to call Cobb County Police at 770-499-3900.
