Poll: Do You Support the Stop Online Piracy Act?

Various websites are blacking out today to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act.

Head to Google today and you'll notice a black box across Google's name. Look something up at Wikipedia and you'll find out that the site has been shut down for 24 hours.

The reason? They are among hundreds of prominent web sites protesting the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA, HR 3261). The bill is intended to stop copyright infringement by allowing the government to censor certain websites for the U.S. audience that allow illegal downloads of movies, music and other digital content.

In addition to Wikipedia and Google, other major websites participating in the blackout include Mozilla, Wordpress, little-apps.org and MoveOn.

The legislation would also cut off such sites from appearing in U.S. search engines, such as Google.

Companies in Silicon Valley worry that the legislation, as written, could have unintended consequences and could lead to further censorship.
