Resolution Condemning Racism Passed At Smyrna City Council

The city of Smyrna acknowledged the recent killings of African Americans and passed a resolution condemning racism.

SMYRNA, GA — The Smyrna City Council unanimously approved on Monday a resolution condemning racism. In agreement, the mayor, along with police department and city employees said they are “deeply saddened by the tragic events that have recently occurred across the country.”

Protests sparked by have been taking place nationwide since Friday.

“Racism and hate have no place in our city and we are committed to working actively against all forms of racism,” the resolution reads. “We are committed to safeguarding our community against the damages that racism causes and to ensuring that the Constitutional rights of every person who lives, works, and visits our great city are protected.”

The city said that a peaceful protest was held on Sunday in opposition to racism. They also said that the Smyrna Police Department is one of the “most diverse” departments in the state.

“Your Smyrna Police Department has been and will continue to be honest and transparent with internal and external stakeholders and will continue to build on the culture of trust with whom they serve,” the resolution states.
