UPDATE: Police Officers Kill Man Fleeing Warrant Arrest in Vinings

Police say the man tried to leave the shopping center by driving away in a Maserati, but was shot and killed before he could escape.

UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): Additional information has been released concerning the fatal shooting at a shopping center in Vinings on Tuesday afternoon.

WSB-TV reports that Smyrna and Cobb County police were attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant to an employee at a store inside the Vinings Crossing shopping center at 1:30 p.m. The man, who was wanted for a probation violation, tried to flee the scene by getting into a white Maserati and driving off. A Smyrna police officer shot into the vehicle, killing the driver.

The four Cobb County and three Smyrna police involved in the situation said they felt their lives would be in danger if the car began moving, WSB-TV said.

ORIGINAL STORY (3:09 p.m.): Police are investigating a shooting which allegedly took place at a shopping center in Vinings on Tuesday afternoon.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, a shooting took place at the Vinings Crossing shopping center at 1:30 p.m. Police have not released any reports of injuries or fatalities to the station.

A FOX 5 news helicopter reported crime scene tape surrounding the Goodyear at the shopping center and also noted the presence of the Medical Examiner’s Office, along with several different police departments.
