Shoplifting Suspect in Custody, Hospitalized Following Wreck
The suspect allegedly stole from the Publix in Vinings and was stopped near the Kroger on South Cobb Drive Wednesday evening.

One person is at WellStar Kennestone Hospital but in police custody after allegedly shoplifting from a Vinings grocery store and becoming involved in a traffic accident involving a Cobb County police cruiser on Wednesday evening.
Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department says that the suspect allegedly shoplifted from the Publix at 2451 Cumberland Pkwy. SE in Vinings and drove away in a stolen truck.
Bowman says that as the suspect was driving down the street, he rear-ended a police car in the vicinity of Concord Road and South Cobb Drive in Smyrna. It is not clear whether or not the suspect was being actively pursued by police at the time of the accident.

That initial accident, Bowman added, led to several others in the immediate vicinity, and caused some slight injuries to other people.
The suspect was taken into custody but transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries received in the accident.
