Smyrna Man Accused of Killing Lithia Springs Couple

Anthony and Catherine Costner were found shot inside their car on Aug. 6 in Powder Springs.

Police in Powder Springs say they arrested two men last week in connection to the homicides of a Lithia Springs couple who were found shot inside a car Aug. 6.

Powder Springs PD posted on Facebook that Roy Hicks, 39, and Demarco Thomas, 22, both face charges in the shooting deaths of Anthony and Catherine Costner; Anthony was pronounced dead on the scene, while Caroline died later at a local hospital.

Their daughter, a toddler, was in the backseat during the shootings, but was unharmed and is now in state care. The Costners reportedly were on their way to help a friend when they were shot.

Hicks, of Smyrna, was arrested on Aug. 8 and charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of firearm by felon and cruelty to a child. Hicks is the suspected triggerman, WSB-TV reported.

Thomas, of Marietta, was arrested on Friday and charged with concealing the death of another, bail jumping and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, according to Cobb County jail records.

Police haven’t release many details of the crimes, but Chief John Robison said investigators don’t believe it was a random act, WXIA-TV reported.
