On May 11, 2015, Lanier is accused of locking a one-and-a-half-year-old female bit bulldog named Royal inside of her doghouse, and then using a fire accelerant to set the doghouse on fire. Royal escaped, but suffered severe burns over 60 percent of her body.

The dog did not belong to Lanier. She was taken to Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic, and has since been adopted by one of the clinic's doctors.
