Smyrna Police Say Suspect in Cold Case Killing Arrested

Anthony Tyrone Rudolph was found shot to death in a Smyrna motel room in 2006; Rudolph's alleged killer was arrested on Friday in Ohio.

The Smyrna Police Department announced on Friday that an arrest had been made in the 2006 murder of an Ohio man inside a Smyrna motel room.

According to the release, U.S. Marshals arrested Joshua Moulder in Ohio after Smyrna police issued a warrant for his arrest earlier this week. Smyrna police believe Moulder is the man responsible for killing fellow Ohio resident Anthony Tyrone Rudolph, whose body was found inside the Smyrna Knights Inn on July 22, 2006.

Police found Rudolph’s car a few days later in Austell, the release said, but the trail soon went cold. Following the establishment of the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case squad last year, detectives worked with Smyrna police to track down and arrest the person responsible for killing Rudolph. Their hard work paid off this month with the warrant and subsequent arrest of Moulder, aged 35.

Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds said in a statement that his office was looking forward to prosecuting Moulder for Rudolph’s murder.

Smyrna police said that Moulder was in custody in Greene County, Ohio and was awaiting extradition to Georgia to stand trial for Rudolph’s murder. Greene County jail records available online did not show Moulder in custody as of Friday afternoon.

Det. Mike Plumb, who was originally assigned the case in 2006, retired on Friday with Moulder’s arrest being his final collar in a 24-year career with the Smyrna Police Department, said police.
