Smyrna Resident Promoted to Brigadier General in National Guard

Gen. David McMinn will continue to serve as the chief of staff for the Texas Air National Guard.

A Smyrna man who serves as the chief of staff and deputy commander of the Texas Air National Guard has been promoted to brigadier general, The Marietta Daily Journal reports.

According to the Adjutant General of Texas Maj. Gen, John F. Nichols, David McMinn was promoted during a ceremony at Camp Mabry in Austin, TX. The newly-promoted general thanked his family, friends, and staff for their support during his career.

served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, then transferred to the Texas Air National Guard’s 136th Airlift Wing. He later served during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as the 321st Expeditionary Operation Group Commander.

McMinn was named the chief of staff and deputy commander of the Texas Air National Guard on April 1, 2014, the Department of Defense reported. He succeeded Brig. Gen. Brian C. Newby, who accepted a position at the Pentagon as the guard adviser for the Air Force’s deputy judge advocate general.
