Smyrna Shuts Down Park After Groups Ignore Rules

The city closed Riverline Park after groups violated its social distancing guidelines.

SMYRNA, GA — A Smyrna park on Tuesday closed due to “continual and large scale activity,” according to its Facebook page.

Walking paths at Riverline Park on Oakdale Road remain open for use, the city said.

“Due to continual and large scale activity that has been taking place at Riverline Park, the Parks & Recreation Department is closing that park for a period of time (only walking & jogging are permitted). The closing began at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that training sessions have been held at the park by Terrence Edwards’ Wide Receiver Academy, LLC. Edwards has played for the Atlanta Falcons.

Large gatherings of more than 10 people, including team games and practices are banned.
