Some King Springs Students Will Occupy Former Brown Elementary Next Year
The dual campus arrangement will allow for the removal of all portable classrooms at the Smyrna school during the 2015-16 academic year.

King Springs Elementary School will branch off into two campuses starting in the 2015-16 school year to alleviate overcrowding, the Cobb County School District announced Wednesday.
Students who will attend special needs preschool, kindergarten, and first grade will have class at the former Brown Elementary School, the district says. A similar arrangement was in effect for Teasley Elementary School while it underwent renovations, but that project is drawing to a close and Teasley students will soon rejoin their main campus.
The move will relocate some 310 students from King Springs to Brown, reducing the student body at the main King Springs campus to around 550 students. The relocation will allow the school to remove all 12 portable classrooms King Springs students were forced to use due to overcrowding.

Although some King Springs students will now attend class at Brown, they are still considered to be attending King Springs, the school district says.
“While change is always challenging, we are excited about gaining more room for our students and staff,” said King Springs Principal Linda Keeney in a statement. “Once everyone has a chance to adjust, I believe that our students, parents, and teachers all will appreciate the additional space. We know how well it has worked out for Teasley, and we believe that King Springs will have a similarly positive experience.”

After the relocation is complete, the King Springs Elementary School main campus at 1041 Reed Road in Smyrna will be rechristened as the King Springs Intermediate School.
Brown Elementary School is located at 3265 Brown Road in Smyrna but ceased to be following the 2012-13 school year. Brown’s student body was transferred to the new Smyrna Elementary School at that time.
