Three in Custody Following Smyrna Manhunt

The suspects in a theft deliberately crashed into a Cobb County police cruiser then jumped out of the car and hid in a nearby neighborhood.

Three suspects are in custody Friday evening after a police chase which led to a manhunt in Smyrna, Cobb County police say.

Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb police said that officers were alerted to a theft at the Sports Authority on Cobb Parkway at 5 p.m. Store personnel told police to be on the lookout for a car with three black males heading north on Cobb Parkway. A Zone 3 officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the car fled onto I-285 when the blue lights began flashing, Pierce said.

The suspect vehicle left the interstate at Paces Ferry Road, then went west until it reached Atlanta Road. There, it turned left onto Atlanta Road and made it as far as Spring Hill Road before running into another police cruiser who had been alerted to the suspects’ route, Pierce told Patch.

Following the collision, the three suspects bailed out of the car and went to hide in a nearby neighborhood. Cobb police and K9 units quickly arrived at the scene and apprehended the three suspects, Pierce said.

The identities of the suspects has yet to be released.
